Increasing representation in the media
The industry is becoming more and more aware of inclusion and I can see the change that is happening. However, I can also see the disabled community being left behind as companies focus on ethnicities, body shape, gender and sexual orientation. This body of work is about showing what is possible and highlighting the beauty of the disabled community whilst also normalising it. These images are about showing society the beauty of differences and how every marketing campaign has the ability to cast diverse talent.
Over the last 4+ years I have spent time creating content, starting conversations and pushing for inclusion. This work has been self led and continues to shape my commercial work as companies and brands can see the importance of being inclusive. I now consult on productions as a diversity expert and in 2022 I partnered with a couple of individuals to create Canada’s first talent agency to solely represent talent with disabilities. This groundbreaking work has been featured by news outlets across Canada and has also resulted in talent being featured in huge international campaigns. We created the link for organisations to hire inclusively and my images showed people what was possible.
I’m proud to know that this work is quite literally changing lives, changing perspectives and igniting conversations that should already be happening.
